About Us

In this day and time one never knows what he or she will find when visiting a house of worship.  It can be very unsettling to enter a strange building among unfamiliar people whose worship you may not understand.  This web site is designed to acquaint you with the beliefs and practices of the Hueytown Church of Christ so that, should you choose to be our guest, you will have an idea of what to expect.

What kind of people are we?

The members of the Hueytown Church of Christ are ordinary people.  Some are school teachers, mill workers and miners.  Others work in the medical field as pharmacists, dentists, or nurses.  Yet others are secretaries, engineers, homemakers and computer specialists.  We have a number of elderly people and younger families with children of all ages.  In short, we are ordinary people.

Through this diversity runs a common thread which binds us together: the Christians here are family and are concerned with helping each other get to heaven.  We are not perfect by any means, but we are trying to grow spiritually and be more of what God wants us to be.

What is Our Worship Like?

Our worship of God is not designed to be flashy entertainment.  Rather, it is a reverent and dignified offering of the heart in accordance with biblical guidelines.  We sing without the aid of musical instruments because the New Testament specifies this kind of music ( Ephesians 5:19).  The Lord’s Supper is observed every Sunday according to the practice of early Christians (Acts 20:7).  Prayers are offered by the congregation ( 1 Timothy 2:14 )

A contribution of funds into a common account is made by the members of the church every Sunday ( 1 Corinthians 16:1-2 ).  We do not solicit funds from those outside the church.  It is our privilege and responsibility to provide for the work which Jesus wants us to do ( 2 Corinthians 9:6-8).  We also have a sermon at both services on Sunday designed to give Bible instruction and to help make meaningful applications to daily life ( Acts 2:42).  May we also add that children are welcome in our assembly.  We believe it is important for them to see adults worship God.

Our View of the Bible

We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God; that is, both the Old and New Testaments were revealed directly from heaven, written by men whom God chose and preserved intact through the centuries (2 Timothy 3: 16-17).  The Bible does not offer mere suggestions nor is it outdated and irrelevant to the needs of modern society.  The Bible contains divine commands and timeless truths pertaining to man’s eternal salvation, from the principles of forgiveness of sin to how to worship acceptably to how to build a lasting marriage.  The Bible teaches us how God thinks about things and what we can expect from Him.  We cannot honor God without also giving due respect to His work ( Luke 6:46).

Our Standing Offer

The Hueytown Church of Christ exists to serve the spiritual needs of all those who are searching for answers to the questions that really matter: “Who am I?” “Why am I here?” What will happen after I die?”  We don’t have all the answers for troubling and difficult things that happen in life, but we believe that the Bible explains everything we need to know to get to heaven.

We will be happy to talk to you, study with you from the Bible or assist you in any way as you seek to learn more about God and bring your life into harmony with His will.  Please don’t hesitate to call on us or visit with us.
